SCULPTURE CLASSES and WORK SPACE for SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, and NOVEMBER 2006
Classes are taught by Steve Dubov (MFA Stanford in Sculpture)

SHORT COURSE: HANDS-ON CLAY
Tuesday evening, August 29th, 7-10pm.
Cost: $76 new students ($65 for Atelier 3-D students).

Slap, push, press and squeeze, these are the fundamentals of ceramics. An evening of making clay sculpture. In this one evening, very hands-on, 3-hour class, each student will create at least one ceramic sculpture, as well as learn some basic information about clay-bodies, ceramic tools and kilns. This workshop is an introduction to the ancient, yet very modern, craft. Working with a water-based clay, using slabs, coils and pinches of clay, every participant will experience making shapes of their choice in this user friendly media. All materials, tools and supplies are provided.

SHORT COURSE: WIRED LINES IN SPACE

Friday evening, September 1st, 7-10pm.
Cost: $76 new students ($65 for Atelier 3-D students).
Keep yourself wired yet grounded. Create your personal expression in easily manipulated materials; this one evening, 3-hour class opens the possibilities of making sculpture anywhere at anytime with almost anything. A hands-on experience: binding, twisting and shaping wire. Developing sculptural ideas that can be translated into larger pieces, or transformed into other materials. At the end of this class you’ll have one finished piece, complete with a base. All materials, tools and supplies are provided.

MODERN ABSTRACT SCULPTURAL FORMS
Session I: Tuesday evenings 6-9pm – September 5h thru October 10th
Session II: Tuesday evenings 6-9pm – October 17th thru November 28th

Cost: $198 for this 6-week, 18 hour class

This course approaches ceramics as a medium which allows for both the additive and subtractive methods to be utilized in the construction of larger, multi-media art works. Students will develop both the technical and the intellectual tools to generate a sculptural series based on their own evolving ideas. This class combines ceramics with other inexpensive materials, i.e. resin, plywood, scrap aluminum and fibers, allowing for a greater range of expression.
